The ICD-9-CM Coordination and Maintenance Committee met in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 5, 2012. CMS indicated that a decision has not yet been made about how much of a delay we can expect. Denise Buenning, director of administrative simplification in CMS’ Office of e-Health Standards and Services, said the federal agency is still gathering information and receiving feedback from payers, providers, coders and software vendors. Ms. Buenning indicated that they are aware that the industry needs to have a decision on this in the very near future. She stated they are working with the Office of General Counsel to determine what is “the most appropriate, fastest and, most importantly, legal vehicle we can use to get that decision out once it’s made.”

NCCI Edits – April 2012 Release

In order to simplify the use of NCCI edit files, CMS will consolidate the Mutually Exclusive edit file into the Column One/Column Two Correct Coding edit file.
